Katie Wagner

Entertainment reporter, producer and host, Katie Wagner was a “TV kid,” born and raised in Los Angeles, the daughter of actor Robert Wagner and former actress Marion Marshall. She now brings her own brand of cool sophistication to the small screen as a correspondent on TV Guide Channel, hosting the network’s weekly program TV Talk.
Since joining TV Guide Channel five years ago, Katie has reported from the red carpet at the Grammy Awards, MTV’s Video Music Awards, VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, The Billboard Music Awards and The American Music Awards.

Named after family friend Katharine Hepburn, Katie spent her early years sleeping in an antique wrought iron crib, a gift from Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. During her childhood, Katie divided time between her mother’s home and her father’s, Robert Wagner, where he lived with first wife, actress Natalie Wood, Natalie’s daughter, Natasha, and Robert and Natalie’s daughter together, Courtney. Eventually, Katie moved in full time with the Wood-Wagners. In November of 1981, Natalie Wood died suddenly and tragically, drowning off the coast of Catalina. Against a blur of paparazzi and tabloid press, her grief-stricken family watched Katie graduate from Beverly Hills High School.

Still a vulnerable time for the Wagner Family, Katie wanted to travel, while also spending time with her father and sisters. Modeling gave her the flexibility she was looking for as well as the opportunity to live in London and Tokyo. Katie’s career in television began in 1987 during an interview for a show called Born Famous. While interviewing Katie and her father, the show’s host asked Katie what she wanted to do. Her answer proved prophetic, “I would like to do what you do.”

Katie’s first television gig was a celebrity interview for the Don Mischer ABC Special M & W. An exclusive at-home interview with Dan Ackroyd and his wife, Donna Dixon, led Katie to a two-and-a-half year run on the Movietime Cable network (which became E! Entertainment) as a host covering the world of entertainment. Katie went on to work for HBO, Cinemax, VH1 and MTV. At MTV, Katie guest hosted from both coasts, co-hosted Awake on the Wildside, filled in for Chris Connelly on The Big Picture and introduced videos at night.

For two years, she co-hosted an international entertainment magazine show called Hollywood Report for Channel Four in Great Britain, which was distributed by WWEN (World Wide Entertainment Report) and seen in 11 other countries. Katie then co-hosted 22 episodes of Live from the House of Blues, a live music show for TBS featuring stars including Sheryl Crow and Hootie and the Blowfish. She also joined Robin Leach for the final two seasons of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous as co-host and contributing reporter, traveling, visiting and interviewing the younger, hipper crowd. Producer Gay Rosenthal soon asked Katie if she would co-produce and narrate Intimate Portrait: Natalie Wood for Lifetime Television, and, with the blessing of her family, Katie family shared their family’s story for the first time.
